CHICAGO CUBS Claim AC/DC Messed Up Their Playing Field

According to The Pulse Of Radio, the management of the Chicago Cubs major league baseball team has lodged a complaint about the conditions of the playing field in their home ballpark, Wrigley Field, after AC/DC played a concert there on September 15. Pieces of the turf gouged out during the show — known as divots — allegedly caused members of the Cubs to make several errors in games played there since.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon told the Chicago Tribune: "Since the AC/DC concert, we’ve had a little bit of trouble. I don’t know if they were out there taking ground balls before the game or if they had nine-inch heels or spikes."

This latest issue follows reports that as many as 20 residents who live near Wrigley Field complained about the concert's noise levels, even though the show was reportedly over by 10:00 p.m.

The Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-5 at Wrigley on Monday (September 21),but second baseman Starlin Castro mishandled the ball during one play Maddon blamed Castro's error on the mangled turf, saying: "[AC/DC] totally messed up the infield. I don't want anyone blaming him on that error. It was a weird hop."

One Chicago sports columnist suggested that the aftermath of the AC/DC show could affect the Cubs' chances of reaching the post-season. Paul Sullivan wrote: "Hopefully, it doesn't hurt them. But if it does, I can see the headline now: 'AC/DC Kills Cubs' Hopes.'"

The next stop on AC/DC's current North American tour is San Francisco on Friday (September 25).
